Recent Advances for the
Patient with Dental Phobia
Do you fear the dentist? If so, you should know you aren’t alone. Many people in the United States suffer from some level of dental anxiety. We understand, and there’s no need to feel embarrassed, ashamed, or uncomfortable in our care. We’re here to help you feel comfortable, and we have a handful of solutions selected to do that. The sedation dentistry pill is one of our most utilized solutions.
While sedation dentistry is not a new concept, the options have broadened over the last few years. A patient who is comfortable and relaxed in the dental chair is our number one priority. That is why we are always staying on top of the newest advances in dental protocol, procedures, and technology.
Here at Lincoln Family Dentistry, we want to make sure you feel comfortable, and we also want to make sure you’re healthy. Although we want to help you with your health, we’ll never lecture you or make you feel bad. No matter how long it’s been since you’ve seen a dentist, we’re happy to see you! With our sedation dentistry program, we’re confident we can help you overcome your anxiety.
The Dangers of Dental Anxiety
While we’re happy to have you, we also want to express the potential problem with dental anxiety. We know it can be scary to see the dentist, but avoiding the dentist can be even scarier in the long run. Avoiding dental visits can result in serious decay and infection in a person’s mouth. This ultimately results in a huge loss to a person’s overall health. Because everything we eat passes through our mouth, the bacteria that results in avoiding the dentist also enters our bodies. This causes inflammation to a person’s organs, which makes them run on overdrive.
Ultimately, we want you to be healthy, without the consequences of negative dental experiences. That’s why we work hard to offer a compassionate, loving environment. Here you can be sure that you’re taken care of, and we’ll do our best to keep you comfortable during your stay. Give us a chance and we won’t let you down. And that’s our promise.
Oral Sedation Dentistry Pill at Our Office
We use a newer drug called Triazolam for our sedation dentistry. Triazolam, taken in a small dose, has been proven to help patients relax through their dental treatment. It’s sometimes referred to as “sleep dentistry.” Not all patients actually sleep during the procedure. Some patients can stay awake and can respond to us, but do not care what is happening, nor is it remembered. Triazolam is considered to be the safest drug on a market to use as a sedation dentistry pill. The sedation pill allows our patients to relax and rest while they receive needed dental treatment without fear or anxiety.
We have had patients who were so fearful that they were in tears almost as soon as they entered the office. With the help of Triazolam, they were calm and able to be treated. Now, they’re patients who see our office regularly, and they’re taking better care of their teeth than ever. The sedation dentistry pill has helped many of our patients overcome their fears, and we’re happy to do the same for you.
Other Amenities for Anxious Patients
Luckily for you, the sedation dentistry pill isn’t the only anxiety solution we offer. We also offer a handful of relaxation amenities built to help our patients feel comfortable and safe. We have pillows, blankets, headphones, TVs, and a handful of other things to offer. Additionally, our sister location offers an excellent experience with the Northstar Zen Room. The Zen Room uses aromatherapy and a comforting environment to keep patients comfortable. It was built with the anxious patient in mind, and we’re happy to refer you. Let your dentist know today if you’d like to check out the Zen Room, or give us a call at 402-467-1000 with any questions or requests.
A Note from Dr. Kelly O’Hara
Even though we have gentle dentists, we understand that previous dental trauma can cause tremendous anxiety or dental phobia. It is because of this that we sought a sedation dentistry solution that would most benefit our patients and help tame those fears. As far as disadvantages are concerned, there is only one: as with almost any form of sedation dentistry, you will not be able to drive yourself to and from the procedure, and you will be restricted on your activities for the remainder of the day. Most of our patients report going home and sleeping much of the day, about four to five hours. This means taking off of work for the rest of the day after your procedure and just taking it easy at home.
Even with that minor downside, overall Triazolam for sedation dentistry is an easy and extremely safe option. If you have a dental anxiety or dental phobia, call our office today to schedule an appointment! We would love to meet with you and have the pleasure of assisting you with your dental health.
Wishing you health and happiness,
Dr. Kelly O’Hara
