We use a newer drug called Triazolam for our sedation dentistry. Triazolam, taken in a small dose, has been proven to help patients relax through their dental treatment. It’s sometimes referred to as “sleep dentistry.” Not all patients actually sleep during the procedure. Some patients can stay awake and can respond to us, but do not care what is happening, nor is it remembered. Triazolam is considered to be the safest drug on a market to use as a sedation dentistry pill. The sedation pill allows our patients to relax and rest while they receive needed dental treatment without fear or anxiety.

We have had patients who were so fearful that they were in tears almost as soon as they entered the office. With the help of Triazolam, they were calm and able to be treated. Even though we have gentle dentists, we understand that previous dental trauma can cause tremendous dental anxiety or dental phobia. It is because of this that we sought a sedation dentistry solution that would most benefit our patients and help tame those fears. As far as disadvantages are concerned, there is only one: as with almost any form of sedation dentistry, you will not be able to drive yourself to and from the procedure, and you will be restricted on your activities for the remainder of the day. Most of our patients report going home and sleeping much of the day, about four to five hours. This means taking off of work for the rest of the day after your procedure and just taking it easy at home.

Even with that minor downside, overall Triazolam for sedation dentistry is an easy and extremely safe option.
